MA Senator wanna be Warren says $14.5 million does not make her wealthy UPDATE this could skew some numbers in the Warren vs Brown race

Massachusetts Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren, who happens to be worth upwards around $14.5 million, says she is not a wealthy individual.

Buzzfeed has the details:

“I realize there are some wealthy individuals – I’m not one of them, but some wealthy individuals who have a lot of stock portfolios” she told him.

Hard to see how Warren wouldn’t be, by most standards, wealthy, according to the Personal Financial Disclosure form she filed to run for Senate shows that she’s worth as much as $14.5 million. She earned more than $429,000 from Harvard last year alone for a total of about $700,000, and lives in a house worth $5 million.

She also has a portfolio of investments in stocks and bonds worth as as much as $8 million, according to the form, which lists value ranges for each investment. The bulk of it is in funds managed by TIAA-CREF.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to hear a progressive lefty in the 1% say THEY are not wealthy, but Warren’s words do bring up the question: How much money does she feels a person needs to possess or earn to be considered wealthy?  More than $14.5 million in total worth?  Over $700,000 a year in earnings?  Compared to the rest of Americans, do they have to be in the top 0.25% and not just in the 1%? If I were living in Massachusetts I would ask Warren these questions while she is out on the campaign trail.

And don’t think for a minute that Warren either misspoke or was misunderstood in the above video. Check out this video from boldprogressives.org of Warren speaking at a Greater Boston Labor Council Breakfast and pay lose attention between the 30 second mark and 1:05 mark, when Warren speaks as if she is in the middle class.

UPDATE – On the boldprogressives.org website where they have the Elizabeth Warren breakfast video, they have a spot where you can donate to Warren. Funny thing is, they are asking for donations and volunteer hours from Republicans and Independents, not Democrats. In case they update their site in the near future, here is a print screen of how the site looked at the time of this posting.

progressives for elizabelth warren

Seeing how Warren is running against Scott Brown, it makes me wonder if the progressives are going to start promoting the number of Republicans and “Independents” that support Warren over Brown by using the info gathered on this website. I wouldn’t put it past them.
